NJ Council on
Developmental Disabilities Offers Emergency Preparedness
Seminars
The first trainings were provided to people who live in group homes and
supervised apartments. Additional trainings were completed during
October and November of 2008.
The 2009 trainings will kick off in September for National Preparedness
Month. The Council will again provide emergency preparedness training
for people with developmental disabilities who live in group homes and
supervised apartments. The training is focused on “individual
responsibility” in emergency planning and includes descriptions such as
what is an emergency.
The trainings will take place from September through November. The 2009
target area is Burlington County. Trainers, Frank Latham and
Self-Advocates are available during the day or evening Monday through
Thursday. Contact Program Coordinator, Jane Dunhamn for appointments at
609.984.3379 and jane.dunhamn@njcdd.org
Feedback from previous trainings:
“Thank you for the green Go Bag. Your seminar was fun, entertaining and
very informative. I hope we can work on this program for our chapter for
next year.”
“The best part of all is that attendees are asking staff for their
assistance to complete the booklet and information card. Participants
also want to follow through on packing their Go Bags. I was amazed at
the desire to take on this responsibility because in the past the
reaction was this was the staff’s job.”
"It shouldn't take another great tragedy to remind us how important it
is to be prepared for any emergency," Jane Dunhamn.
