Assembly Bill No. 340
--Misuse of Accessible Parking Spaces and Placards
A bill to help cut down on the misuse of
accessible parking spaces and accessible placards was introduced into
the General Assembly by Assemblyman Joseph Pennacchio. Specifically,
A-340 requires the DMV to issue color coded expiration stickers for
accessible parking placards and license plates when renewed every three
years. The bill also establishes the “Handicapped Parking Education
Fund” administered by NJ Motor Vehicle Commission that is to be used for
educational programs about accessible parking laws. The bill now needs
to be posted and read in the Assembly Transportation and Public Works
Committee, chaired by Assemblyman John Wisniewski. Through the
letter-writing efforts of Monday Morning members and others, a companion
bill (S-1492) has
been introduced
in the
State Senate by Senator Loretta Weinberg. The bill now awaits action in
the Senate Transportation Committee, chaired by Senator Nicholas Sacco.
