Bill No. S1411

Sponsor: Senator John F. Kerry (Massachusetts)

Cosponsors: 1

Summary: Establishes the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund to provide for the development, rehabilitation, and preservation of decent, safe, and affordable housing for low-income families.

Comments: The sponsors propose to use profits generated by Federal housing programs to provide additional appropriations to support new housing activities. The funds would support projects that enable rental housing to be built for "families with the greatest need in areas with the greatest opportunities in mixed-income settings." The funds would also be used to promote homeownership for low-income families. The goal is to provide approximately 1,500,000 additional affordable, low-income housing units over the next 10 years.
